Leanne Mullen, Elsevier: Getting published and maximising your visibility

In this session we will discuss the publishing landscape, including the varied roles of Authors, Editors, Referees, and Publishers in connecting communities.

The aim is to share some insights into how to identify the right home for your work, how to navigate the review process and after acceptance how to best promote your discovery to your network and the wider community. Key topics covered include, how to prepare and submit a manuscript, an overview of the peer review process, journal and article level metrics, novel article formats, data sharing, and social media tools. The seminar will be presented by Leanne Mullen a member of Elsevier’s Materials Today team and will conclude with a Q & A section where any questions on any aspect of publishing are welcome.


Leanne Mullen, PhD – Senior Publisher, Polymers

Leanne completed a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge. She has been working in publishing since 2012. During her publishing career, she has worked in various disciplines including applied mathematics, materials science, physics, chemistry and engineering. Leanne is currently Publisher of Materials Today Bio, Materials Today Chemistry, Progress in Polymer SciencePolymerEuropean Polymer JournalPolymer Degradation and StabilityReactive and Functional PolymersProgress in Organic Coatings and Polymer Testing. Leanne’s role also involves managing both the International Conference on Multifunctional, Hybrid and Nanomaterials and the International Symposium Frontiers in Polymer Science.
