2025 Faculty Summer Event – Highlights
On 2 June, staff and students of the Faculty of Chemistry once again gathered in the Carl Auer von Welsbach Lecture Hall for the annual summer event. As part of the semester’s fourth Faculty Colloquium, Prof. Sven Rau (University of Ulm) gave a talk entitled Active repair of molecular hydrogen evolving photocatalysts – a new chapter in artificial photosynthesis, in which he presented a new strategy for repairing molecular photocatalysts and improving their catalytic performance.
Two new members of the Faculty also introduced themselves and their research: Prof. Elisabeth Hofer, who has headed the Institute of Chemistry Education since April 2025, and Ass. Prof. Javier Mateos, who joined the Institute of Organic Chemistry in October 2024 as a tenure-track professor.
Due to weather conditions, the celebration following the colloquium was moved indoors to the lecture hall foyer. There, the evening came to a sociable close with a Heurigen-style buffet and summer punch.

The invitation was issued by Prof. Leticia González, whose group at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry also works on modeling photochemical processes in complex systems and on photocatalysis.
Prof. Elisabeth Hofer has headed the Institute of Didactics of Chemistry since April 2025.
