The FWF Programm "Principal Investigator Projects International" offers researchers a largely thematically open funding opportunity covering a wide range of individual requirements. It provides principal investigators and their research groups with the resources they need to work together with international project partners to investigate key research questions over a period of several years.
- Depending on the participating country, up to 36 or 48 months
- Depending on the proposed research, project-specific funds (personnel and non-personnel costs) can be applied for. The FWF’s review process for Principal Investigator Projects (PAT) applies, or, in the case of clinical research projects, the process for the Clinical Research (KLP) program; the processes used by the FWF’s international partner organizations may also apply.
Depending on the country, submissions can be made either on an ongoing basis or by a specific deadline.
Cooperation projects with the FWF as the lead agency can currently be submitted on an ongoing basis with the following countries: Germany, Italy/South Tyrol, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Czechia.
Currently, cooperation projects with France with the FWF as the lead agency can be submitted until January 12, 2026.
