Dr. Sami Lakhdar, Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France: "Making and Breaking Chemical Bonds with Visible Light"

When: Friday, 19.07.2024, 15:00

Where: Small lecture hall 3, Boltzmanngasse1, 1090 Vienna

Abstract:
In recent years, the field of visible light-mediated organic transformations has undergone a significant revival, profoundly influencing the methodologies for synthesizing organic molecules.1
This presentation will explore the crucial role of physical organic chemistry in both understanding and innovating photoinduced chemical reactions.
The first part of the talk will focus on the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds facilitated by visible light, while the second part will examine how well-designed phosphorus molecules can activate inert chemical bonds when exposed to light.2
Detailed mechanistic insights will be provided for both segments, emphasizing the interplay between photochemistry and chemical reactivity.
