Title: Designing hierarchically porous materials via liquid-phase synthesis and their application to separation science

Abstract
Sol-gel synthesis accompanied by phase-separation offers widespread opportunities to fabricate monolithic materials with controlled hierarchical pore structures in various chemical compositions such as oxide ceramics, organic polymers and organic-inorganic hybrids. Among others, pure silica monoliths with well-defined macro-mesoporous structure have been applied to novel type of HPLC separation medium that offers high-performance separation without sacrificing the speed of operation. The advantage as well as further challenge of using monolithic separation media in various type of separation science will be introduced.
